Glossary of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants. Editor: William Laney. ISBN 978-3938947-00-5. Quintessence. Hardback £70.00. 224 pages 181 illustrations.
With the ever-growing demand for implants world-wide, the need for precise and consistent terminology is at the heart of implant dentistry. This is a timely publication from Quintessence. The book is endorsed by the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and most of the editors have been closely associated with ITI. It contains nearly 2000 terms presented in alphabetical order which the editors have based on review of the implant literature. There are many diagrams and photographs illustrating the terms, many of which make links to a list of useful references at the end of the book. Terms are frequently cross-referenced, for example when there is dual terminology in use. The book is accompanied by a CD-ROM (Microsoft Windows only) which duplicates the printed volume but with a search facility. There is an appendix giving useful contacts and web addresses for many dental implant/dental trade organisations. The book is easy to use and if adopted would facilitate communication between all members of the dental team as well as with patients; not to mention lawyers!.....
